The Juvenile Justice Center of Philadelphia (JJC) is a non-profit, multi-service organization that serves the needs of disadvantaged children, youth and families. Our mission is to maintain families through supportive services, to prevent children and youth from being placed in care, and also to ready families for reunion with their children. JJC has a Parenting Assistant opening.

Job Summary

The Parenting Assistant is an integral team member of the Parent Empowerment Program (PEP). The Assistant will engage children in age appropriate recreational activities that include arts and crafts projects, storytelling and other projects as assigned by Program Facilitator.

This position requires working closely with children and assisting the Program Facilitator in the administrative functions of the program.

The Parenting Assistant must be able to work up to 4 hours a week and have the flexibility to travel to an off-site class when the class is offered.

Classes are scheduled on Thursday mornings from 10am to 12pm and our community evening class is offered from 6pm to 8pm.

If children do not attend the session, the parenting assistant will assist the program facilitator with administrative functions such as filing, set up and clean up, and possible data entry.

Qualifications:

HS diploma or associates degree

Experience working with children of all age groups in a class setting

Satisfactory PA Child Abuse, FBI, and PA Criminal clearances within 12 months of hire.

Must have a recent Free of Contagion and Communicable Disease release from licensed physician

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

Ability to be flexible and adaptable to the needs of the program and children.

Ability to multitask and follow a curriculum and adapt the curriculum to the needs of the children.

Ability to work with a diverse client population

Excellent communication skills including assertiveness

Must be able to relate to children and re-direct them to focus on goals and objectives for the class.

The ability to lift and carry up to thirty pounds.

Ability to walk, bend, stand, lift, see, speak, and hear as the position requires on-going communication and observation of children.

This is a part-time position with a non-negotiable cap on hours due to funding. There are no benefits available for this position.

Classes are scheduled in 12 week blocks with some down time between class cycles.

Compensation
Hourly compensation is $13.00 per hour.
