The Juvenile Justice Center of Philadelphia (JJC) is a non-profit, multi-service organization that serves the needs of children, youth and families in need of services to promote healthy and productive outcomes related to their emotional, behavioral well-being, social and educational progress. Our service delivery model is to provide quality intervention and prevention services to children, youth, and families through supportive services.
JJC is looking for the ideal full-time and part-time Van Driver/Support Staff candidate for our Aftercare Evening Reporting Center , Intensive Prevention Services, and our Community Evening Resource Center.
Positions are located at the following sites:
100 West Coulter Street Philadelphia, Pa 19144 (Germantown section of Philadelphia).
5538 Chelten Avenue Philadelphia, Pa 19144 (Germantown section of Philadelphia).
5407 Grays Avenue Philadelphia, PA 19143 (Southwest section of Philadelphia)
Job Summary:
The Van Driver/Support staff is as an integral member of the IPS, AERC, and CERC team. He/She/They will provide transportation services using JJC vehicles and support services for the IPS, AERC and CERC youth prior, during and at the commencement of programming, as well as to community services events, and other programming activities. Support services the Van Driver may involved with range from supporting and monitoring youth while program activities are happening, picking up program activities and food, setting up activities, answering the phone, and reception.
IPS youth participate in pro-social and recreational activities from 3pm to 6pm Monday through Thursday three to 4 days a week. (Germantown & Southwest location)
The AERC youth come to the program between the hours of 4pm and 8pm for various life skills activities, pro-social activities, and for case management services. ( Germantown location)
CERC youth participate in pro-social and recreational activities from 7pm to 9pm 7 days a week. Some youth may be transported home after program hours. Youth who arrive at the CERC site after 10pm due to curfew violations via police, are transported home up until 2am. (Germantown location)
Hours of Work
The Van Driver can choose the hours that best accommodate their schedule. The primary hours are afternoon and evenings. There will also be times when the Driver will be needed two Saturdays a month for trips, community service projects and special events. Saturday hours are typically 11am to 2pm depending on the activity. There may be times that a van driver will be needed to take the vehicle in for routine maintenance and repairs.
The Van Driver will work a minimum of 16-24 hours a week Monday through Sunday or 40 hours a week for full-time position. He/She/They may need to have alternative Saturday hours available for transporting youth home after scheduled activity. These hours will vary depending on the activity.
Monday through Friday 1pm to 6pm ( AERC & IPS)
Monday though Friday 4pm to 9pm (AERC )
Monday through Sunday 7pm -10pm & 10pm to 2am (CERC)
This is a part-time position with potential for full-time consideration.
Qualifications:
- A high school diploma or equivalent.
- A current and valid driver’s license, driving record free of any moving violations or points and a driving record that meets JJC insurance company insurability requirements.
- Experience transporting passengers in a twelve to fifteen passenger van.
- Familiarity with various neighborhoods throughout the City of Phila.
- Ability to sustain control and high level of safety when operating the vehicle
- A pleasant demeanor and great customer service attitude
- Must like being around children and youth and have an “easy going” disposition.
- An annual physical form verifying that the employee is “free from contagion”.
- Act 160 PA criminal, child abuse and FBI Clearances.
- The ability and willingness to adjust work hours in accord with program schedule.
- A proven and demonstrated ability and experience in working within a team based setting and group settings.
- Experience working with youth from diverse backgrounds and life experiences.

Compensation: $16.00 to $18.00 an hour
