Full Time Youth Intervention Specialist Aftercare Evening Reporting Center
The Juvenile Justice Center of Philadelphia (JJC) is a non-profit, multi-service organization that serves the needs of children, youth and families in need of services to promote healthy and productive outcomes related to their emotional, behavioral well-being, social and educational progress. JJC is looking for the ideal Youth Intervention Specialist (YIS) candidate for our Aftercare Evening Reporting Center for juvenile justice involved youth. This position is located at 100 West Coulter Street, Philadelphia, PA 19144 (Germantown section of Philadelphia).
The Youth Intervention Specialist is as an integral member of the Aftercare Evening Reporting Center team. He/she will provide mentoring and supervision to youth in the AERC program. The AERC program is designed for justice involved youth between the ages of 16 and 20 returning from juvenile facilities/institutions and or youth who have had multiple and or habitual contact with the juvenile justice system. The primary function of the Youth Intervention Specialist is to provide additional support to the youth while in the program and to provide assistance to the assigned Mental Health Counselor with program and youth related goals (employment, education, mental health needs, life skills, etc.).
The AERC is a mandatory 30 day program for youth to attend upon referral from their probation officer, judge, public defender, or assistant district attorney. The 30 day minimum reporting requirement can be extended contingent upon the youths’ needs. The programming for youth operates from 4pm to 9pm Monday through Friday and alternative Saturdays. As this is a full time position, hours of work will be adjusted and scheduled according to the programmatic needs of the youth and program.
The Youth Intervention Specialist will help facilitate and/or co-facilitate daily recreational and educational activities such as sports, games, musical activities or art events and accompany the youth on outings and special events. The YIS will also oversee youth in community service projects, and encourage and ensure youth participation. The Youth Intervention Specialist will assist the Van Driver with transportation by dropping off youth on the agency van once programming is finished. He/she will interact with youth, their families, and other professionals involved in the youths’ life maintaining close contact and developing a positive rapport during programming. He/she will act as a champion for the youth and help encourage the youth to complete the reporting requirements and help set goals for the youth to achieve.
Bachelors degree in one (1) of the following disciplines: Psychology, Social Work, Sociology, Education, Criminal Justice, or other Human Service field
- An annual physical form verifying that the employee is “free from contagion”.
- Act 160 PA Criminal, Child Abuse and FBI
- Possess valid driver’s license with clean driving
- The ability and willingness to adjust hours in accord with job
Hours of Work:
The position is a 40 hour work week with much needed flexibility to start after 12pm and work until 9pm. There may be times to start work before 12pm depending on activities. The Evening Reporting Center starts to receive youth at 4pm and programming ends at 8pm.
Between the hours of 12pm and 4pm, the YIS will be assisting the AERC Mental Health Counselors and AERC Coordinator with program related activities.
The YIS must have alternative Saturdays available for community service projects and special recreational/cultural programs. These hours will vary depending on the activity. The YIS must be able to adapt their schedule to accompany youth to activities such as probation meetings, juvenile or adult court hearings, school meetings, medical appointments, and do school visits and family visits when needed. When these activities occur, hours will be adjusted.

Compensation: $33,000.00 to $35,000.00 (contingent upon experience).
