The Juvenile Justice Center of Philadelphia (JJC) is a non-profit, multi-service organization that serves the needs of disadvantaged children, youth and families. Our mission is to maintain families through supportive services, to prevent children and youth from being placed in care, and also to ready families for reunion with their children. JJC has a Deputy Director of Community Based Services opening in our Coulter Street office.

Job Summary

The Deputy Director of Community Based Services is an integral part of the administrative team, comprised of the Executive Director, members of JJC’s senior and administrative leadership team.  The Deputy Director has the responsibility to oversee JJC’s Truancy Intervention and Prevention Program, and JJC’s placement services program.  The Truancy program is comprised of 50% of the position. The Deputy Director will be responsible for the compliance and quality assurance aspects of each program he/she supervises and providing direct supervision to program directors. He/she will make recommendations to strengthen each programs service delivery, paying particular attention to using evidenced based practices, training, compliance, and adherence of City and State regulations.  The Deputy Director will also assist with overall decision-making and direction-planning pertaining to the programs.   He/she reports directly to the Executive Director and works in close coordination with the program directors. As this is an elevated program director  position within the agency, the Deputy Director is expected to work a very flexible schedule and be available at all times to handle emergency situations. The Deputy director also carries a 24 hour/7 days a week cell phone and is expected to respond to crisis and problems brought to his/her attention.  The prime responsibility is to ensure that everything is done to safeguard the safety, health and welfare of every child/youth in all three programs he/she manages.

  Qualifications

Master’s in Social Work; LSW or LCSW preferred

SPECIFIC REQUIREMENTS

  • The use of a car each day, including the possession of current auto insurance and driver’s license.

  • The ability and willingness to adjust hours in accord with program responsibility. Some evening hours are inevitable. Some weekend hours are inevitable given agency events happens on Saturdays.

  • Minimum of 8-10 years working as an administrator within a child welfare agency directing and supervising the activities of different level social work staff.

  • Minimum of five years of experience working with programs aimed at reducing truancy, eliminating the barriers to school refusal, and delivering services to children and youth who are deemed at risk of formal child welfare and juvenile justice services.

  • 5-10 years of experience supervising more than six employees at one time.

  • 5-10 years of experience working within the Family Court System servicing delinquent and at-risk youth and families.

  • Demonstrated and verifiable experience in managing budgets between $500k and 3M and a success record showing that the programs managed had positive successful growth rates.
